Hello, I am Crystal!
I am a botanical watercolour artist and flowers are my obsession. Originally borned and raised in Singapore, I live near Melbourne, Australia, about 80km east in a beautiful place called the Yarra Valley, inspired by nature and my surroundings. My background as a yoga teacher brings mindfulness, presence, a sense of flow, letting go and joyfulness into my art practice.Â
I only discovered painting at 40 years old and quickly discovered that this practice tops everything else in life in terms of the amount of peace, joy, empowerment and dare I even say, healing to my soul.Â
I love painting flowers as I see them as the accents of nature. The peak of beauty in our natural landscape. They have all the colours, textures, shapes and personalities to be a subject of endless creativity and joy. They are also a symbol of feminine energy, something that allures me, stirring something primal within to make me want to consistently pay homage to its beauty.Â
In my watercolour style, I let every bloom, every petal speak to me, and my intuition takes over to create the marks, shapes and colour on a page. I love to paint loose, freely, and I believe I have a unique way of painting flowers in a very uncomplicated yet profound and effective way.Â
I am also a mum of 2 very fun and crazy school aged boys, and a little pet cavoodle. When I am not painting, I am finding new lovely places to hike, finding good new asian eateries to enjoy with family, travel to new countries and cities, and learning constantly about the meaning of life and why we are here.
